Bio
Patients share more about themselves than ever and see too little of the benefit. My work is about closing that gap: I study how health data moves between patients, providers, payers, and regulators, and what happens to cost, quality, and privacy when it does.
I am a tenured Associate Professor of Business Technology at the Miami Business School, with secondary appointments in Health Management & Policy and, at the Miller School of Medicine, in Informatics & Health Data Science. I have been affiliated with the Brookings Institution's Center for Technology Innovation since 2014 and am now a Nonresident Senior Fellow there.
My research on health information exchange, prescription monitoring, telehealth, and price transparency has appeared in Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, and Milbank Quarterly, and has been cited in federal rulemakings. In 2025 I founded Intellident Systems, a University of Miami spinout building AI software for dental practices.
